Gunners boss does not expect any more departures this month.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that he will not be offloading any more players until new signings are made.
The North London club have already loaned out both Marouane Chamakh to West Ham and defender Yohan Djourou to Bundesliga outfit Hannover, while both Andrei Arshavin and Sebastian Squillaci have been told they can leave this month.
Brazilian defender Andre Santos and midfielder Aaron Ramsey are two more players to have been linked with an exit but Wenger does not expect any departures unless new faces arrive.
“I don’t envisage any other departures at the moment unless others come in.
“On that front we are working very hard – I won’t give you numbers or names of players, and I don’t want to give false hope, but we are trying.”
The Gunners have been linked with a move to bring a new forward to the Emirates this month, with Spaniards David Villa, Adrian Lopez and Alvaro Negredo all suggested as possible targets.
But one forward also certain to remain at the club is Theo Walcott, after Wenger revealed positive stpes in negotiations with the 23-year-old over a new deal.
“We are on a good road with Theo. I was optimistic last week, but even more optimistic this week,” said the Frenchman
“Do I expect him to sign by the end of the month? Yes. Discussions are going smoothly.”
He added: “Theo can have a preference maybe to play through the middle, but first of all he never made a condition of that to extend his contract, because certainly I would not accept it.
“Secondly he was always happier when he plays, whether it is on the flank or through the middle. That has no influence at all. Theo just wants to play and he is happy to play on the flank as well.
“Walcott is a different animal now. His finishing has improved significantly and you can see a difference with the runs he makes.”
