Madrid’s Ozil demands high wages to move to the Premier League.
Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil is open to a move to the Premier League, but interested clubs Arsenal and Manchester United would have to cough up £200,000-a-week in wages, reports the Sun.
Ozil is disgruntled at the Santiago Bernabeu due to the impending arrival of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur and the German is worried about the midfielder’s position in the side as a result.
The 24-year-old has been highly successful in the Spanish capital since a move from Werder Bremen in 2010, providing 81 assists in all competitions, but Madrid are clearly keen to shake things up.
Therefore the Gunners and United are keeping an eye on proceedings and are both considering moves for the man valued at around £40m.
Two other Madrid stars could also be heading to north London.
Ozil has pinpointed the Red Devils as the Germany international’s first choice, having shown his disappointment at being subbed again for Los Blancos at the weekend by walking straight down the tunnel.
Both Premier League sides have been quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, but Arsene Wenger and David Moyes have promised moves will be happening before the window closes on September 2.
A marquee signing wouldn’t go amiss at either the Emirates Stadium or Old Trafford, although United are perhaps more needing of a creative midfielder than Arsenal are.
The English champions have already had two bids for Cesc Fabregas rejected by Barcelona and have seen another midfield target in Thiago Alcantara choose Bayern Munich instead of them.
