Manchester United forward could still join Premier League rival.
Arsenal and Chelsea remain confident of luring Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, despite David Moyes’ insistence the striker will not be sold.
Rooney has just two years remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford and both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are refusing to give up on the 27-year-old, who held crisis talks with new United boss Moyes last week.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Gunners have made a £20m opening bid for Rooney and, like Chelsea, the north London outfit are prepared to match his £250,000-a-week United wages.
The London duo will both promise Rooney status as their star man – something Moyes cannot guarantee with Robin van Persie at the club and Cristiano Ronaldo a summer transfer target.
United are keen to resolve the Rooney saga quickly either way and both players and senior officials at Old Trafford are keen to avoid a situation in which the former Everton striker overshadows other matters at the club.
