Manchester United new boy Anthony Martial could cost the Premier League giants up to £58m, according to reports.
The 19-year-old Frenchman officially joined the Red Devils on deadline day, with reports suggesting United stumped up a fee of £36m for the technically-gifted youngster.
According to Daily Star, however, the Ligue 1 giants insist that United paid an initial fee of £36m but it could potentially rise to £58m factoring in bonuses and add-ons.
The report suggests Martial could become the second most expensive signing in British football history following United’s ill-fated £59.7m spend on Angel di Maria in 2014.
With Chelsea also interested in Martial, the Daily Star reports the Red Devils could have panicked into splashing the cash on the French youth international.
While Martial has drawn comparisons to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, he is still somewhat of a gamble as the former Lyon man has made just 52 league appearances in his short career.
