Joshua was forced to pull out of his last fight back in January after he suffered a stress fracture in his back, but the Olympic gold medallist is back at the full strength ahead of Saturday night.
The 25-year-old’s last outing came back in November when he produced a devastating display against Michael Sprott in Liverpool and secured his 10th win in 10 fights by way of knockout.
He will be hoping to kick-start that momentum again as he returns to the ring, although Gavern will likely be a tricky opponent as Joshua warms up for his next fight after Saturday which has already been scheduled for May 30 at the O2 against Kevin Johnson.
While Joshua has yet to go beyond the third round in a fight, he will be extremely keen to get back to work after his injury lay-off and it comes as part of promoter Eddie Hearn’s plans to take him around the UK as his profile continues to grow and he becomes more popular.
Bradley Saunders had been expected to co-headline the show in his hometown, but was forced to pull out of his bout due to injury and so now all eyes will be on Joshua as he looks to give his fans another brutal win via a stoppage.
Joshua undoubtedly took the smart advice to take time off and let his injury heal before resuming training, but he appears in good spirits and on top form in training camp as he will look to re-ignite his push towards becoming a world champion in the coming years.
AJ is expected to ring-walk at 10:15 pm on Saturday night.
