The British boxing public will be hoping they are seeing the first fight in a long and successful career for Anthony Joshua as he fights Emanuele Leo in his pro-debut in London.
After turning pro in July this year, the 23-year-old heavyweight will step into the pro spotlight for the first time against veteran Leo.
The little-known Italian brings with him a pro-record of 8-0 with 3 knockouts into this weekend;s fight against the gold medal winner in the super heavyweight division from the London Games last year.
Leo said he was of course aware of the pedigree Joshua brings with him to their fight but said that will count for little once the bell rings.
“Regarding Anthony, I know he’s a top fighter, and I’ll be trying to be better than him,” Leo said.
“I’ve heard some comments from people that he didn’t deserve the gold medal. (Robert) Cammarelle (the man Joshua beat for the top medal) is a friend of mine, I would have preferred him to win but as far as a the result goes – no comment.”
“I’ve never fought a fighter as strong as Anthony before, but I have fought who were pretty strong.
“I trained in Puglia, in the south of Italy. Training went well, but it’s down to my training to judge that.”
Much will be expected of Joshua in his first bout, however, if he can contain his likely nerves in his first bout he should be too good on the night.
