Former Sampdoria ace is one of brightest prospects in Italy.
The agent of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has tipped the youngster to become one of the best in the world, but just how good is the Argentinian starlet?
The 20-year-old earned a move to the Nerazzurri following a breakthrough season with Sampdoria last year, where he scored 10 goals in 31 appearances.
Much has been made of his Argentinian roots as well as the fact that he is a product of the Barcelona youth academy, but he now has the opportunity to develop with one of the biggest clubs in Europe through regular playing time.
Having already shown an ability to find the net against Juventus for his former club, he continued his goalscoring feat against Antonio Conte’s men in the Derby d’Italia on Saturday evening.
Within moments of coming on as a substitute, Icardi had given the hosts the lead, although Arturo Vidal would cancel his opener out within minutes as the two rivals were forced to share the spoils.
Nevertheless, Icardi’s movement, pace and finishing were on display for all to see for his goal, as he demonstrated his eye for goal by running in behind the Juve defence before finishing with aplomb past Gianluigi Buffon.
“I’m really happy for Mauro. I really believe in his potential and I’m certain that he will be the best attacker on the planet,” his agent Abian Morano said after Saturday’s game as reported by Football Italia.
“He is still very young and he’ll continue to grow with time. The goal on Saturday was important for Inter, but also for Mauro’s development.”
The Rosario native will undoubtedly learn from Diego Milito as his compatriot returns from a seven month injury lay-off, and with Rodrigo Palacio also providing competition it may take time for him to establish himself as coach Walter Mazzarri’s starting frontman.
However, as he continues to develop and mature he will further improve his raw talent, and perhaps Morano is right in that his goals may well propel him into the spotlight further.
