Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green said he expects the team to give quarterback Andy Dalton a new contract soon.
The Cincinnati Bengals are entering a predicament with quarterback Andy Dalton. His rookie deal is set to expire after the 2014 season. Although the quarterback has taken the Bengals to the playoffs in his first three years as their starter, he has failed to win a playoff game.
Dalton also broke the franchise record for touchdown passes in a single season with 33, further complicating the Bengals’ decision. The 26-year-old also has a 30-18 record as a starting quarterback.
Many of his critics have pointed out that having A.J. Green as his top wide receiver has helped him a lot too. Green is widely known as an elite receiver. He has demonstrated this by reaching 1,000 yards in all three of his first seasons and catching 11 touchdown passes in the last two seasons. Throwing 20 interceptions in 2013 has added fuel to the fire for criticism of Dalton as well.
Green vocally came to Dalton’s defense though, saying that he would not want any other quarterback throwing him the ball. The wide receiver also went on to say that the team should re-sign Dalton. He expects them to complete a new contract for him soon, as he told the Bengals’ official website.
