Harry wants to bring English trio to Loftus Road.
Redknapp has agreed terms on a £3million-a-year two-and-a-half contract at Loftus Road, and has been promised substantial bonuses if he can keep QPR in the Premier League this season.
In order to do that, Redknapp believes he needs up to three new signings in the January transfer window, and the former Spurs boss is targeting proven performers.
They include ex-QPR striker Peter Crouch, who is currently at Stoke, along with West Ham captain Kevin Nolan, but his top target will be a reunion with Tottenham’s Defoe.
Harry Redknapp was in the stands to watch his new QPR side blow a lead and lose 3-1 at Old Trafford but he will have been encouraged by the spirit and determination shown by his new charges.
Even so, the former Tottenham boss will now that there is plenty of work to be done if he is to save the Hoops from relegation and the man who loves a deal (but hates to be called a ‘Wheeler Dealer’) is sure to spend in January.
Redknapp is no fool and the 65-year-old will be aware that the R’s have shipped far too many goals this season – 26 in 13 matches – and a new defender or two is bound to be on his shopping list, with a move for Tottenham’s Michael Dawson a near certainty.
But, according to the source, Redknapp is also keen to boost his attacking options, with moves for former charges Defoe and Crouch, plus West Ham’s Nolan.
It’s no surprise to see Harry linked with the striking duo, both of whom he signed for Spurs and Portsmouth.
But Defoe is currently Spurs’ number one striker under Redknapp’s successor Andre Villas-Boas and the England international is on decent form, having bagged five Premier League goals already this season.
Crouch, meanwhile, is the focal point of an improving Stoke’s attack and Tony Pulis is unlikely to let the giant forward go without a fight.
Nolan, another player Redknapp has lavished praise on in the past, is currently a major reason why a resurgent West Ham are flying-high in the league and it’s difficult to see Big Sam Allardyce agreeing to sell the playmaker in January.
There’s no doubt that ‘Harry + relegation battle + money = big spending’ but Redknapp may have to find some more realistic targets in January.
