Weather plays part in England progress at ICC World Twenty20

Both England's matches in this year's Twenty20 World Cup have been decided by the weather, and is is threatening to steal the limelight away from some creditable performances. In their first match against the West Indies, England hit a hugely impressive 191-5 after batting first - in what has been widely described as the outstanding batting innings of the tournament so far.

Their second match against Ireland was abandoned due to persistent rain, and Ireland were sent home bottom of the group, with scarcely a chance to defend their place. Ireland batted for just 3.3 overs before the match was called off, and will feel mightily unfortunate after creditable displays.

England and the West Indies were the qualifiers for the Super Eights stage of the tournament, joining all six of the other top eight sides in world cricket. There are surely some fascinating matches to come, but hopefully cricket will be the winner - instead of the weather.
