Six Nations: Wales v Ireland preview
By James Barnes, on 4th March 2011, 13:43 UTC
Ireland visit the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on March 12th to take on Wales, in what could be a defining match in this year's Six Nations.
With both teams on four points, two behind leaders England, the winners of this match will still be in contention for the title whereas the losers will have nothing left to play for.
Wales have been handed a boost with Lions prop Adam Jones declaring himself fit for Ospreys' game against Glasgow on Saturday, increasing the likelihood that he will be available for the clash with Ireland. Meanwhile, Rhys Priestland has made the fly-half battle a three-way fight. The 24-year-old is fancied as Wales next number 10, but after coming on as a replacement against Scotland he was left on the bench for the win over Italy.
Ireland Prop Mike Ross believes Ireland have proved their scrummaging critics wrong with their performances so far. Once thought of as a weak area, the scrum has improved greatly with Ross' inclusion. However, it has now been confirmed that flanker Stephen Ferris will miss the remainder of Ireland's campaign with a knee injury. Ferris was hoping to play some part, having not been included so far, but the injury has now ruled him out completely.
Tickets for Wales v Ireland are available now. The match takes place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday March 12th, kick-off is at 5pm.
