Scotland left wondering what might have been after Italy loss

It is the tiny details that swing a result one way or the other in sport and make it so fascinating. Had Scott Lawson not illegally infringed play in the 74th minute against Wales when his side were 24-14 up, they could - and perhaps should - have gone on to complete a brilliant victory. In Saturday's clash at the Stadio Flaminio, they were left contemplating missed opportunities and absent players through injury.
Scotland scored their only points with the boot of Dan Parks, and Italy's single try by Pablo Canavosio won them the game 16-12. Had they beaten Wales and Italy, it would have been a great first Six Nations tournament for Scotland coach Andy Robinson, but now they look set to finish bottom of the table for the first time since 2006. A recovery for the matches against against England and Ireland is vital for the Scots if they are to salvage anything from this season's tournament.
