The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox came to blows in a Thursday game as Royals starting pitcher Yordano Ventura instigated a fight again.
Suspensions have been handed out to six players, including Ventura and other key pitchers.
He had previously done so against the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland A’s. Ventura and White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton mouthed off at each other after an out, and they had to be held back by umpires before the benches cleared.
The fight escalated quickly as White Sox pitcher Jeff Samardzija became heated, and White Sox pitcher Chris Sale ran to the Royals clubhouse to challenge Ventura to a fight.
For his actions, Ventura received a seven-game suspension. Samardzija, Sale and Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez were all given five-game suspensions.
Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain and relief pitcher Kelvin Herrera were both suspended for two games.
White Sox general manager revealed that Samardzija and Sale will make their next scheduled starts and appeal their suspensions.
