Top-scorer Sturridge could well be on the sidelines for the trip to Wales.
After a fantastic start to the new Premier League season for Liverpool, the club has been hit with the news that star forward Daniel Sturridge could miss their next match with Swansea City.
The England international was set to play a big party in the nation’s important World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine in the next few days, but now looks likely to be watching from the stands.
The Red’s propulsion to the top of the league is due, in no small part, to the 23-year-old’s three goals so far this term – with the striker netting all of the club’s goals in the league during 1-0 victories over Stoke City, Aston Villa and Manchester United.
However, Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson is not optimistic about Sturridge’s chances for the national team and has also sent a warning to Brendan Rodgers.
“We have to be honest here,” Hodgson was quoted by ITV.
“The fact is when they did the scan at the beginning of the week, it was going to be touch and go for Tuesday, and possibly even Saturday week.
“I’m not enormously optimistic. I’m not confident.”
In the absence of the attacker England will be starting with Southampton’s Rickie Lambert up-front against Moldova, with Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott flanking the 31-year-old.
Hodgson’s injury headache continues as Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is also ruled out, as is Phil Jones, Glen Johnson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
