Young United winger Zaha does not want to be sent out on loan.
Manchester United’s £15m January signing Wilfried Zaha does not want to be sent on loan next season, and will fight for a place in the first team, reports Sky Sports.
“I’ve grafted to get here so Manchester United is where I want to stay,” said the pacey winger after figuring in United’s first pre-season tour match.
“I’ve moved away from most of my family and friends but it’s progress. Everyone understands that.
“I wanted to make the move here because it’s what is best for my career.”
There had been rumours Zaha would be sent on loan again to guarantee first-team football, as he was for the second half of last season. Instead, the 20-year-old will stay and battle the likes of Nani, Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa, Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia for a starting position.
Zaha scored eight times in the Championship last season playing on the right of a front three. He is equally adept on the left though, and can cut in and shoot using his right foot, as is often favoured in the modern game.
Of United’s current wingers, Nani and Young would be most comparable to Zaha in terms of style. Young did not score a goal last season, and Nani only managed to score three.
Zaha definitely has the talent to secure a starting position at Old Trafford. The large pitch will suit the attacker because of his lightning pace. He will also be able to hug the touchline and wait to receive intricate service from brilliant passers like Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs.
David Moyes will hope Zaha can add goals to his side, after claims that United were possibly relying too heavily on Robin Van Persie last term, who scored 30 per cent of team goals.
England boss Roy Hodgson will too be hoping that Zaha is given consistent game time, with attacking spots still up for grabs in the run up to next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
