Latics agree fee with Barnsley for teenage defender.
Wigan have agreed a fee with Barnsley for Everton target John Stones, according to Sky Sports News.
The 18-year-old has been tracked by a host of Premier League clubs, including Everton, who are seeking a new right-back after losing Seamus Coleman to injury for a month.
But Wigan appear to have won the race for the England youth international after agreeing a fee in the region of £3m.
The youngster is now set for talks with Wigan and is expected to sign ahead of Thursday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez has been eager to bolster his defensive options and has already re-signed Paul Scharner on loan from Bunesliga outfit SV Hamburg.
Stones primarily plays at right full-back but can also cover at centre-half.
