The Hammers have not given up on Ba after failing to score in six league matches.
In what is becoming something of a theme in the Premier League this season, West Ham United want attacking support after struggling in front of goal.
The east London club are targeting underused Chelsea striker Demba Ba once again, as the side were forced to play no forwards at the weekend against Aston Villa, reports the Mirror.
The Hammers have been fielding a ‘false nine’ in the style of European giants Barcelona, although their tactics are not working quite as well.
The 0-0 result with Villa was the sixth time from 10 league matches that Sam Allardyce’s team have failed to score and the side are in desperate need of reinforcement in attack.
Mladen Petric was signed on a free transfer this summer and after briefly leaving the club, Carlton Cole is back at Upton Park on a short term deal.
Andy Carroll has been injured for much of the campaign and Allardyce has tried to rely on midfielders Ravel Morrison and Kevin Nolan to provide the goal.
The Irons tried to sign Ba, Romelu Lukaku and Nicklas Bendtner on transfer deadline day, but failed in all three attempts, but the manager has admitted that if Petric and Cole start scoring then no attacker will be brought in during the January window.
“We tried to get three top loan strikers who play in this country but we failed to get all three,” Allardyce was quoted by the Mirror.
“We will have to try again depending how Carlton and Mladen go before the end of January. If they come good and Andy gets back there will be no need for another striker.”
Ba has been on the periphery of the team this season since Jose Mourinho returned as boss and has played just five games and scored no goals.
