Frenchman reveals all about north Londoners’ Jan transfer plans.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given the club’s long-suffering fans hope that the North Londoners will be bringing in a big-name player before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
The Gunners, who have not won any silverware for an incredible eight years now, are struggling to even finish in the Premier League’s top four this campaign, and with that entry into Europe’s premier club competition next season.
However, the Frenchman was also keen to stress that any transfer business that the club do do will be conducted late on.
“The prices go always up at the start of the transfer window and go down in the last week,” said Wenger.
“Sometimes as well they go up in the last week but it depends. Most of the time they go down. You know that 90 per cent of transfer activity happens in the last week if not in the last 48 hours.”
And, Wenger also denied recent reports that Arsenal were interested in bringing Chelsea midfield payer Frank Lampard to the Emirates this month, saying: “No [we won’t try to sign Lampard]. We have a young midfield. [Aaron] Ramsey did not start against Swansea.
“Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did not start the game, when time goes on he will become a central midfielder as well. We have what we need in the middle of the park.”
