Arsenal boss believes atmosphere at Emirates is hindering players.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has launched an astonishing attack on the club’s fans, according to talkSPORT.
The Gunners boss has come out and blamed the Emirates faithful for creating a negative atmosphere at the ground that is making the player’s nervous. He went on to suggest that the players are performing below their capabilities because they are thinking too much about how the crowd will react.
Talking after his side’s defeat to Manchester City, Wenger said ‘I felt we started too timidly and with not enough authority. You can see that nerves play a part in our team at the moment when we play at home. [The players are nervous] because they feel the scepticism around the team. The players feel that they want to do well. They have a great desire to do well, so maybe they’re a bit too anxious that they don’t respond completely to the expectation level of the crowd.’
They are some sensational statements from the Arsenal boss considering the patience Arsenal fans have shown with the side after having failed to win a trophy now in over seven and half years.
Tickets for Arsenal games are one of the most expensive in the league, as has been well publicised recently, and Arsenal fans may feel this adds insult to injury following defeat to a Manchester City side who had not beaten Arsenal away in the league for 37 years.
