Kangaroos notch record victory as they lose a senior player to injury.
A serious Achilles injury to captain Andrew Swallow has marred his side’s massive win over the Melbourne Demons at Etihad Stadium, which keeps the sides hopes of playing in the finals alive.
The Kangaroos earned an important boost to their percentage with their 122-point thrashing of the Demons were kept scoreless in the final term.
North Melbourne blew the game open with eight goals in the final quarter, but it could have been even more, with eight behinds also recorded.
The margin is the 10th biggest in North Melbourne’s history as they Demons continued their season of woe, as they count down the weeks left.
Goals were shared through much of the Kangaroos side with Aaron Black and Ryan Bastinac scored four each while Daniel Wells, Drew Petrie, Ben Cunnington, Todd Goldstein, Leigh Adams and Aaron Mullett all bagged two.
North Melbourne still have work to do if they want to make it back to the post-season as they currently sit two wins adrift of Carlton and Port Adelaide who sit in eighth and ninth respectively.
Melbourne will be out to atone for their woeful performance next weekend when they tackle fellow cellar-dwellers Greater Western Sydney, who remain winless for the season after being beaten by Collingwood this weekend.
Hear from North Melbourne coach Brad Scott speak about the injury to Swallow and the rest of his side’s big win.
