Trophy given to player who made the highlight reel for all of the wrong reasons.
Surely some sympathy must be coming soon for Denver Nuggets centre JaVale McGee, or at least a white flag.
The at times brilliant and often clumsy NBA big man has ‘won’ the league’s LOL award for the funniest unintentional moment on the court this past season.
While some of his high flying dunks and crushing blocks make highlight reels for the right reasons, McGee often has the spotlight shone on him for plays he’d rather forget.
His winning effort came against the Indiana Pacers when the 7ft big man attempted to start a fast-break and did so by getting out of traffic by pulling off a nice behind-the-back dribble move.
But it all went downhill from there as he lost control of the ball, and in a desperate bid to keep possession for Denver, attempted to pass to teammate Kenneth Faried, only to see the ball sail into the 12th row of the crowd as McGee stumbled to the floor.
McGee has expressed in the past he doesn’t not like being a constant target for ridicule, but from all NBA fans, our funny bones thank you Mr McGee.
