Real Madrid’s lack of affection forced Ozil out of the door…
Arsenal’s £42m record signing Mesut Ozil never really wanted to leave Real Madrid and join the Premier League side, claims respected Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague.
The Gunners shocked football fans across Europe by securing a deal for the brilliant 24-year-old German playmaker, but Arsenal supporters will be disappointed to hear that the player perhaps never wanted to join in the first place.
“Ozil didn’t want to go [to Arsenal]. But for a while he’s been feeling that Real Madrid have not been treating him the way he deserves,” said Balague.
With Gareth Bale signing at Real Madrid for a world-record fee, Ozil felt his first-team spot was in jeopardy, and felt he was not aptly appreciated at the Bernabeu.
“With the arrival of Bale… [Ozil] felt he’d be the one affected… [Ozil] felt he was going to be left out and it’s a World Cup year. [Ozil] didn’t want to go. Everybody seems to be very upset that he has gone,” he added.
Whether he was forced out of the La Liga club or not, Arsenal have still secured themselves a brilliant player, and if he settles down quickly, the Gunners could perhaps even mount a serious Premier League title challenge.
