LeBron could be rested at times: Coach Blatt says he will look to keep his star fresh for playoffs.
LeBron James discusses weight loss: (Video) Cavs star ready to make adjustments this season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers eased to a 107-80 win over coach David Blatt’s former team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, in a pre-season warm up game on Sunday night.
LeBron James scored 12 points before being rested in the second half as Maccabi were unable to keep up with the pace beyond the first half.
Point guard Kyrie Irving added 16 points while Kevin Love had 11, but Blatt’s main concern beyond facing his former friends and players was to ensure that his players take another step towards being ready for their NBA season opener against the New York Knicks on October 30.
Amongst the observations made aside from an impressive overall performance from the Cavs which included some fluid ball movement and sharing of the points, there were some uncertain moments offensively as the players get used to each other and the system.
However, perhaps more importantly, Maccabi were able to get some easy baskets in the first half using a system that Blatt taught them, and naturally that raised questions over Cleveland’s defense.
Nevertheless, they made adjustments at half time and looked more solid and although there are still some pre-season games to participate in, all eyes will be on how they perform when the season gets underway.
