Black Stars’ captain missed crucial spot-kicks for his country in past two tournaments.
Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he will not be on penalty-taking duties for his country during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
“I lost my Mum recently and one thing she said two weeks before she dies was: ‘(don’t take) these penalty kicks,’” said Gyan, who missed key spot-kicks for his country in both the last Afcon and the 2010 World Cup finals.
“I have to respect her decision, you know, for me not taking penalties for the team. But when it gets to the time I have no option to take it, why not, to take it. But, in terms of the game, I don’t think I can take it, no. Unless maybe penalty shoot-out or something. That will be fine.”
