Cory Allen was the star of the show as his first-half hat trick of tries helped secure a comprehensive 54-9 win for Wales against Uruguay on Sunday afternoon.
Allen made the most of a porous defensive unit from the Uruguayan’s before the interval with his third try arguably the pick of the bunch.
The underdogs started brightly with Felipe Berchesi handing them a 6-0 lead early on, but it didn’t last long as Allen stepped up and delivered.
Justin Tipuric, Gareth Davies, Samson Lee and Hallam Amos all added tries, while Rhys Priestland was also integral in the win as the Welsh started their World Cup campaign with a convincing win.
With a clash against England coming up, it was the perfect way for Warren Gatland’s men to get underway, particularly given that they have been rocked by injury concerns in the build-up to the tournament.
Their woes didn’t get any better during the game with Allen also picking up a problem, so it remains to be seen whether or not they can protect themselves at the top of Pool A.
