Rose confident he will win championship: Bulls star believes in current roster.
Rose donates $1m to program: Point guard gives back to Chicago community.
Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose scored 11 points in 14 minutes in his pre-season debut against the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
The 25-year-old has played in just 10 games over the past two NBA seasons after suffering two serious knee injuries, but after playing in the FIBA World Cup this past summer, he appears ready to make his return for the Bulls this season.
Rose added four rebounds in his 14 minutes on the floor, but it was the first time in almost a year that he had played in front of his home fans at the United Center in a Bulls uniform and it was undoubtedly an emotional time for all concerned.
Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau was pleased with his point guard’s performance but he still insists that Rose has plenty to work on in pre-season to be ready.
“I thought Derrick played well,” Thibodeau said.
“Very well. He’s been shooting the ball well throughout camp, so I wanted to see what it would look like in the game. And it looked like he had great rhythm, and so that was very encouraging. Some good, some bad, a lot to work on.”
Meanwhile, center Joakim Noah also played after undergoing knee surgery this summer and looked rusty after going 1-of-6 from the field in his first game since the end of last season.
Nevertheless, he is confident that with increased work over the pre-season schedule he will be ready for the season tip-off. Elsewhere, new recruit Nikola Mirotic scored 17 points in his first appearance for the franchise.
