Only Chris Rogers and Brad Haddin put together respectable totals, with Aussie captain Michael Clarke’s traditional struggles at the MCG again highlighted with a poor 10 runs as the hosts finished the day’s play on 164-2 – 91 runs behind England’s score of 255 all out.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad got three wickets each for England, with Tim Bresnan grabbing two and Ben Stokes one. Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow made three catches in his first appearance as wicketkeeper.
