Valencia welcome Atletico Madrid to Estadi de Mestalla for a Copa Del Rey clash between two of the biggest teams in Spanish football.

For much of the last decade or so, it has been Valencia who have been the most likely challengers to traditional La Liga title favourites Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, but financial problems have seen Los Che sell many of their best players over the years, and in the last couple of seasons it has been Atleti who have appeared closest to breaking the duopoly.

Diego Simeone has performed miracles at Estadio Vicente Calderon, transforming Atletico Madrid into genuine contenders to win the Primera Division this season.

They are the holders of the Copa Del Rey too, having defeated cross-city rivals Real in last season’s final, and they will be confident of a good cup run this term too.

Diego Costa has been in tremendous form up front for the Spanish capital side, while former Valencia forward David Villa is his more than capable strike partner who will be highly motivated against his old team.

Valencia will be unable to match such firepower, with top scorer Jonas suspended, and playmaker Ever Banega out with injury.

Still, ex Tottenham Hotspur striker Helder Postiga will lead the line, and is no stranger to important goals.

It promises to be a highly competitive match, and Valencia will hope Atleti have one eye on Saturday’s top of the table La Liga clash against Barca.

The match will be live on Sky Sports with coverage starting at 8pm. If you don’t have a Sky subscription why not grab yourself a NOW TV Sky Sports Day Pass – Pay As You Go access to all 6 Sky Sports channels for the first time ever!
