Tiger Woods stormed to his eighth victory at the Firestone country club last weekend, during the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio, and is now a hot favourite for the US PGA Championship.
The American shot his lowest career score of -9 in his first round, and finished on
-15, seven shots fewer than Keegan Bradley who was in second.
Woods managed 19 birdies in the tournament, and also had one eagle.
“I don’t know what it is” said Tiger, upon being asked why it is he always seems to play well on the South course at Firestone, “It just fits my eye, I feel comfortable here for some reason.”
The 37 year-old now has 79 US PGA championship tour wins, only 3 less that Sam Snead’s record.
However Woods hasn’t won a major since the US open in 2008, and will be hoping he can change that this weekend, with his game looking in tip top form.
Fellow American Bradley will also be looking forward to this event, having won the event in 2011, and the world number ten is in great form.
Various pundits also favor compatriot Phil Mickelson, who won the recent British open, and always seems to pull out a performance in the majors.
Current world number two and last years winner Rory McIlroy has already been written off by many. Since signing his million pound deal with Nike his game has been in disarray, and the Northern Irishman most recently missed the cut at the British Open.
This year the PGA is being held at Oak Hill, in Rochester.
