Belgian could miss the start of the Premier League season after injury against Sunderland.
Jan Vertonghen is facing a race against time to be fit for the North London derby on 1 September after a scan revealed he will up for up to a month with ankle ligament damage.
The news was broken by London based Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, who has good links to his compatriots playing the Premier League and is normally spot on with this kind of info.
However, as with all these kind of things, don’t take it as red until you hear confirmation from someone at Spurs or the club’s official website.

If the news proves correct, Vertonghen is likely to miss Spurs’ opening two Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and Swansea City.
