Spurs could bring Moroccan to White Hart Lane in January.
Tottenham are poised to make a £10million offer for Montpellier’s Younes Belhanda in January.
The 22-year-old playmaker was named France’s young player of the year last season and has attracted attention from Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Tottenham’s scouting team have been scouring Europe to find a suitable replacement for Luka Modric and, while manager Andre Villas-Boas is a keen fan of Joao Moutinho at Porto, Belhanda could represent better value for money.
The Morocco international has notched eight goals in 22 games this season but has a fiery side and was sent off against Paris St-Germain.

There’s no doubt that Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is keen to add some more creativity to his midfield but the Portuguese will know that compatriot Joao Moutinho will be a tough player to sign in January.
The 26-year-old nearly joined Spurs on August transfer deadline day but the £22m deal collapsed due to administrative issues. Portugal star Moutinho has since stated he is happy to stay at Porto until the end of the season.
Another playmaker target, Christian Eriksen, has admitted he’d be interested in following former teammate Jan Vertonghen to White Hart Lane but the 20-year-old is among the most highly-rated pass-masters in Europe and Spurs will face fierce competition for his signature.
Belhanda, meanwhile, is a realistic option for Villas-Boas. The Moroccan excelled last season, as Montpellier stunned Ligue 1 by claiming the title.
The 22-year-old normally operates in the centre of midfiled and his rate of 8 goals in 20 appearances this term suggests he is capable of playing off a lone striker in North London.
Last season’s French Player of the Year can also operate on either wing and would provide adequate cover for Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon.
