AVB could move for midfielder in January or next summer.
Tottenham are on red alter after transfer target Christian Atsu turned down a new contract at FC Porto, reports Sports Vibe.
Atsu is interesting Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who handed the youngster his senior debut for the Portuguese side during his reign as manager back in May 2011.
Spurs attempted to sign the Ghanian in the summer but Porto’s hefty demands proved a stumbling block.
But Porto could now be forced to listen to offers for the 20-year-old, who has just 18 months remaining on his current deal.
It is understood Porto were hoping to negotiate a new deal including a €30m release clause to deter the winger’s growing list of suitors, which also includes Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Spaniards Valencia.
Villas-Boas is desperate to add more pace and width to his Spurs side and failed in a bid for Shakhtar’s Willian over the summer.
The young tactician could now return to his former employer with a renewed bid for Atsu and hope the fear of losing the winger for a paltry compensation in 18 months time forces Porto’s hand.
