Belgian wants to join compatriots in North London.
Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld says he would like to join Arsenal or Tottenham.
The Belgian international has been linked with a move to the Premier League in January and has stressed he wants to follow former Ajax teammates Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen to North London.
Alderweireld, 23, who can play at centre-half and full-back, believes a move to either the Emirates Stadium or White Hart Lane would be a ‘step forward’ in his career.
“If the time is right, it will come, but now Ajax is the most important thing. Therefore, I expect that I can be watched in the [Amsterdam] ArenA after the winter break,” Alderweireld told Sky Sports.
“Ajax is a very nice club. It won’t be hard to play here all my life – but if I had to choose it have to be a nice club like Ajax again and there aren’t many of them.
“But a club such as Arsenal or Tottenham – they are fantastic clubs and would be a step forward.”
Spurs boast a growing Belgian contingent after landing Vertonghen and Moussa Dembele over the summer, while Arsenal signed Belgian Vermaelen from Ajax in 2009.
Alderweireld has played second-fiddle to his compatriots for the national team in the past two years, but has still amassed 20 caps for his country.
