St Kilda ruckman Lewis Pierce has committed to the Saints for another year, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2015 season.
The 19-year-old has shown great promise and is aiming for a senior debut in 2015.
Pierce was named as an emergency for St Kilda’s final two matches and says that being so close to an AFL call-up has given him the confidence to push for selection early in 2015.
“It’s given me a lot of confidence to see that I’m in the coaches’ thoughts and a debut is what I’m working towards,” Pierce told the club’s website.
“I will just try to put in a good pre-season, build my body up and become a better player by the time next winter comes around.”
Pierce added that the younger brigade at the Saints were all pushing for rapid improvement, and therefore raising each others standards.
“With so many young guys coming through, we are all supporting each other and helping each other get better,” he said.
“We’re not interested in slow progress. We’re committed to rapid improvement and pushing each other to the limit.”
