Sevilla fell to a 4-2 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday night which in turn saw them eliminated from the Champions League.
A double from Lars Stindl with goals from Fabian Johnson and Raffael sandwiched in between secured the victory for the hosts, while Vitolo and Ever Banega grabbed late consolation goals for Unai Emery’s side as they suffer disappointment in Europe’s premier competition.
After their success in the Europa League in the last two years, much was expected of the La Liga side in the Champions League this season, but ultimately they failed to deliver.
Coupled with Juventus defeating Manchester City, it ended the Spanish side’s hopes of progressing, while Monchengladbach had already seen their chances of advancing ruled out prior to kick off given their poor form through the competition so far.
While Sevilla will hold on to hope of securing third place and thus dropping down to the Europa League, their early elimination will also give them an opportunity to focus on domestic matters as they currently sit five points adrift of the European qualification spots in La Liga after a disappointing start to the campaign.
Should they drop into the Europa League, Sportium will likely place Sevilla among the favourites in their outright betting market.
