Serena Williams faces Kimiko Date-Krumm in the third round of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships in the same position as any match played on grass against any opponent: the American will be a clear favourite to win.
World number one at the age of 31, Williams is playing some of the best tennis of her career, and will look to claim her sixth Grand Slam title at SW19, and seventeenth overall.
However, despite her age and experience, she is far from the veteran in this encounter.
Kimiko Date-Krumm is 42 years of age, and shows no signs of slowing down her remarkable career.
After retiring in 1996, Date-Krumm was absent from the game for twelve years before returning in 2008 to great effect.
She is the oldest player in the top 100 on the WTA Tour, and whilst she has not enjoyed brilliant results at Wimbledon since her comeback, she is a former semi-finalist.
Reaching the third round is her best result in an incredible seventeen years, but it is likely that the power of Serena Williams will prove too much for her today.
