Hawthorn endured a worrying security scare when razor blades were found on the training ground an hour before Thursday’s final training session at Waverley Park.
“We are fortunate no one was hurt,” Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox said in a statement on Friday.
“I commend staff and security for acting quickly to protect our players and patrons.”
Security and club staff then combed the ground to the ensure it was safe to train on.
Reports suggest there were three blades found on the ground and there was speculation they were deliberately planted to injure players ahead of Saturday’s AFL grand final.
