The Seattle Seahawks return to the nation’s capital on Monday night looking to improve on their 2-1 record so far this season when they face the Washington Redskins.
These two teams last met in the playoffs in 2012 and after the Seahawks won on that occasion, they have undoubtedly gone on to greater heights than their rivals.
While Seattle won the Super Bowl last year, Washington ended the regular season with a 3-13 record which saw Jay Gruden handed the role of coach this summer. Robert Griffin III has not been the same player since re-injuring his knee in their last meeting, and after suffering an ankle knock last month, he will be missing from this game too.
In contrast, Russell Wilson has gone on to emerge as one of the more reliable signal-callers in the NFL, and after coach Pete Carroll gave the roster the entire week off during their bye week, they will come into this contest refreshed.
Seattle will now play 13 weeks in a row, but having won eight straight on Monday nights, they will relish the opportunity to get back on the field this week.
However, they will have to do so without Zach Miller who misses out after ankle surgery, but Kam Chancellor returned to practice after recovering from his own ankle problem.
His return will be a boost to an already intimidating Seahawks secondary, with Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins already struggling for confidence after throwing four interceptions in the heavy loss to the New York Giants last time out.
Alfred Morris’ ground game will likely be key for the hosts, while opposite number Marshawn Lynch will hope to have an impact for the visitors.
Nevertheless, Redskins fans have some hope as history will show that they have won the last six regular-season meetings with the Seahawks, although they have lost all three post-season match-ups in that same time frame.
