Scotland face Croatia in their major 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match, having already failed to reach the finals in Brazil next year.
This represents an opportunity for manager Gordon Strachan to experiment with some of the less capped players in order to build for the next campaign.
The likes of Barry Bannan, Leigh Griffiths, Ikechi Anya and Craig Bryson could be handed valuable opportunities, and a tough match against Croatia at Hampden Park could be useful experience as Scotland start again.
One surprise name likely to be on the team sheet will be Steven Hammell.
Upon injury to Lee Wallace, Gordon Strachan said Hammell is likely to play a part.
“He is very close,” said the Scotland boss, who has also noted that his Croatian counterpart Igor Stimac has nine players on the verge of suspension.
“That gives Igor a dilemma, to play them or not to play them, but I wouldn’t mind that dilemma,” said Strachan.
“But, to be fair, if you look at their squad, it is a strong squad.
“They can afford to leave two, three, four, five players out and I don’t think it weakens them any.”
