Dutch forward set for bargain move to Emirates Stadium.
According to both the Daily Telegraph and L’Equipe, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of FC Schalke 04 striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
The Telegraph claim that now the Gunners have concluded a deal to bring back their legendary forward Thierry Henry on loan from New York Red Bulls, Huntelaar and Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha are the next priority targets.
Today’s edition of French sports newspaper L’Equipe goes even further though, stating that a deal has been agreed, whilst the Metro agrees, and says that Huntelaar will cost Arsenal just £4m.
Of course, Huntelaar is 29 years of age, but given that his game has never relied on pace he should have a good few years left in him at the highest level.
The Netherlands star has scored a huge amount of goals wherever he has gone – as long as he has been selected.
Real Madrid and AC Milan didn’t play Huntelaar from the start as much as he would have liked, but 76 goals in 92 appearances for Ajax, 42 in 70 for Schalke and 34 in 59 for Holland are proof of considerable pedigree.
Arsenal would certainly benefit from a top class striker such as Huntelaar, who has a much better strike rate at international level than compatriot – and former Arsenal star Robin Van Persie.
At £4m, he would represent a considerable bargain, with Schalke eager to secure whatever fee they can get as he is out of contract in the summer.
