Forgotten star in fine form for Hamburg in German Bundesliga.
Former Chelsea, Wolves and QPR centre-back Michael Mancienne has largely been forgotten by fans of Premier League football.
But the 25 year old is in such fine form for his new club, Bundesliga side Hamburg, that he may well be in line for a call up to the full England squad according to The Mirror.
Preferring to test himself against some of the world’s best, such as Robert Lewandowski, Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben, in the Bundesliga rather than put up with another season on loan in the Championship, Mancienne made the move to the European mainland in the summer of 2011 and has not looked back since.
Mancienne initially failed to adapt to his unfamiliar surroundings, the defender has become a key part of Hamburg’s revival. Their fortunes have especially improved since the arrival of Dutch ace and former Spurs player Rafael Van der Vaart.
Assured on the ball, Mancienne has a 88.5% pass completion rate and that may well capture the eye of England manager Roy Hodgson, who is likely to freshen up the national side that has become all too familiar with the same regular faces being called up for every squad.
