QPR boss fails in late attempt to sign Nigeria international.
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has said that he felt sorry for West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie after the Nigerian’s proposed move to Loftus Road fell through at the last minute.
fanatix tickets – Barclays Premier League tickets are still available for this weekend’s games.
QPR vs Norwich tickets are on sale from £15 the match at Loftus Road on Saturday.
Odemwingie was not given permission by his club to talk to the West Londoners and yet still drove himself down to the capital in a last-gasp effort to seal his move to the relegation strugglers.
“I think he probably felt that the deal had been agreed between the clubs and it hadn’t and it was all a mix-up really,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
“I feel sorry for the lad and the way the whole thing’s turned out. It wasn’t any of our doing. I think he was maybe advised that he should turn up here and that the club had made an offer and the offer had been accepted. The wires got crossed somewhere.”
However, there was some good news for Redknapp when he completed the double signings of Tottenham Hotspur pair Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend, the former on an 18-month contract and the latter on loan until the summer.
“It’s great to be linking up with Harry again. Him being here was key to me making the move,” Jenas said.
“I know what he brings as a manager and on a personal level, it’s an opportunity for me to play football.
“It’s no secret I’ve had some injury problems in the last couple of years, but this is a great opportunity for me to play in the Premier League – and hopefully keep this club where they belong.”
