The winger has picked up an ankle injury that may force him to miss the El Clasico match-up.
Ronaldo is the most expensive player in the world, having cost Real Madrid £80 million to secure his signature from Manchester United and is vital to the Spanish giants.
The player was substituted shortly after scoring his perfect hat-trick in Sunday’s La Liga game against Getafe.
While it was described as a ‘precautionary’ measure, playing the Portuguese international could risk a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Matters are not helped by Ronaldo’s Portuguese compatriot and Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho desperately needing a win to relieve some of the pressure on himself and his team.
There have been persistent rumours of dressing room unrest this season, with Spanish newspaper Marca claiming that influential players within the Madrid dressing room have told the club’s hierarchy that they will hand in transfer requests should Mourinho remain in charge at the beginning of next season.
The rumours appear to have left Ronaldo unaffected however, with the player starting the new year with nine goals in just six appearances.
