Spanish giants take zero tolerance stance on abusive chants.
La Liga leaders Real Madrid have handed life bans to 17 of their own fans after they were caught singing abusive chants about Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Catalonia, the Metro reports.
The LFP (Spanish league) are looking to further clamp down on bad behaviour at football following the death of a fan this month in a clash between Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna.
And Real are looking to act quickly as they identified 17 fans that sang chants which referred to Messi as ‘abnormal’ and ‘bloody Catalonia’.
“Our qualitative step forward or new commitment is that if the referee does not hear it we will draw attention to it.There were insults and unacceptable chants at the Bernabeu, so I gave the order to report them,” said Javier Tebas, the LFP president.
