PSG will keep Verratti, Ibrahimovic and Sakho…
Laurent Blanc is determined not to sell any PSG squad members, despite the plethora of talent now available to him, reports Sky Sports.
“Everything is very clear. If PSG are to become a great club, players have to understand that there will be great players in every position. It is then a competition to become a first team member. I believe Mamadou (Sakho) is receptive to that,” said PSG’s new boss.
Sakho had been linked with Liverpool, as the club are trying to reinforce the defence after Jamie Carragher’s retirement. The defender has moved further down the pecking order at PSG following Marquinho’s £27m arrival, but Blanc is adamant that the French international stays to provide competition for places.
Blanc is equally confident that Zlatan Ibrahmiovic will stay, following Edinson Cavani’s £55m arrival from Napoli.
“I am sure he will stay. That is what he has told me. He can complement Edinson Cavani well. Then it will be about managing egos,” said the Frenchman.
It will be interesting to see which of the pair play the central striking role this season for PSG, as the French side, like most of Europe’s elite, favour a 4-3-3 formation. Ibrahimovic has only ever played centrally, while Cavani has played from the right for Uruguay. His talents are best suited in a more central role however, as he proved in Italy last season by scoring 29 league goals.
Larent Blanc finally stated he wanted to keep young midfielder Marco Verratti.
“I have no doubt he will stay. I have spoken with him and I consider him to be part of PSG this season.”
If PSG do keep hold of everyone, they will not only have a terrific squad at their disposal, but also a huge task in keeping such a talented group of players happy with limited playing time.
Worryingly for the rest of the league, here’s how the Parisians could line up on the first day of the season:
