Former referee adds voice to calls for computer assitance.
Graham Poll has called for the introduction of goal line technology according to The Daily Mail.
The former Premier League referee has added his voice to those who seek the implementation of computer assistance in determining decisions such as offsides and whether shots have crossed the line.
Howard Webb had a good game managing the Manchester United vs Liverpool game, and while Poll acknowledged that, he went on to claim Nemanja Vidic’s winning goal for United was offside and that video technology could have helped highlight that to the officials.
‘I was completely unaware that Vidic was in an offside position when Evra’s header was diverted into the goal for what proved to be the winning goal. So was assistant Darren Cann, who may well have not seen the ball strike Vidic and eve if he did, I am not surprised as I didn’t notice the offence until reviewing replays’ write Poll.
United dominated the first half against Liverpool and should have extended their lead further before Vidic got a touch off Evra’s header. Sturridge equalised almost immediately for Liverpool however and had the chance to level for the visitors late in the game before the match ended 2-1.
Graham Poll famously showed Croatia player Josip Simunic two yellow cards without sending him off in the 2006 World Cup.
