It’s the opening match for Pakistan and West Indies in the Champions Trophy as they take on each other in this Group B encounter.

In a table of four that also contains India and South Africa these two nations may struggle to keep up with the leading pack, as both have seen a slump in form in the last 10 years.

For the West Indians this has been particularly prominent as a nation that once dominated world cricket now sits at the bottom of the rankings for the major nations.

It’s a sad state of affairs for the Caribbean force but in Chris Gayle they have arguably the greatest short-overs batsman in the world.

With the heaviest bat of the tournament and a powerful array of shots, Gayle showed just quite how good he is at the recent IPL competition when he scored an amazing 175 runs off just 66 balls.

The danger-man for Pakistan is likely to be spin bowler Saeed Ajmal, as some intelligent tactical play in recent times has seen the emergence of spinners as a real danger in 50-over cricket.

The veteran has taken 128 wickets at this level at a solid average of 22.91 and if he can find his form could give the West Indies top order something to think about.
