Even harsher sacking then Adkins with Southampton? Maybe not quite….
Spare a thought today for Leonardo Jardim. Greek newspaper Ekathimerini is reporting that he has just been sacked from Greek giants Olympiacos.
Jardim now finds himself unemployed, despite leading Olmpiacos to the top of the Greek table.
Top of the table by ten clear points…
Having won 14 out of 17 matches…
Remaining unbeaten in the league so far this season…
And having secured a place in the last 32 of the Europa league after a decent Champions League campaign.
That kind of sacking makes the decision by Southampton to part ways with manager Nigel Adkins on Friday look calm and measured.
A statement on the club’s website merely stated ‘Olympiacos FC have parted company with Leonardo Jardim and the manager’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect. We wish to thank Mr Jardim for his work and efforts during his time with the club. (Assistant coach) Antonis Nikopolidis will step in to take charge of the team for tomorrow’s match against PAS Giannina’.
Jardim has been criticised by some sections of the Olympiacos fans this season for being too defensive tactically.
Olympiacos owner, Vangelis Marinakis, is also known for being spontaneous and controversial.
But before you feel too much sympathy for Jardim, rumours are emerging alleging to know the true nature of his sacking…
They are suggesting that Jardim has been sacked because of an inappropriate liaison with Marinakis’ wife!
