The Frenchman hasn’t played since the revelations.
The form of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud won’t be affected by affair allegations with glamour model Celia Kay, says team-mate Bacary Sagna.
British tabloid the Sun on Sunday printed pictures of the 27-year-old in his underwear in a hotel room with Kay, with Giroud later publicly apologising on Twitter.
Since then the France international has denied he committed adultery, but Arsene Wenger has chosen not to play the forward in either of the Gunners’ crucial matches since the revelations.
Giroud was on the bench for both the FA Cup fifth round victory over Liverpool on Sunday and the 0-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Despite having not started a game for his new club before the weekend, youngster Yaya Sanogo took the Frenchman’s place in the starting XI for both ties.
Wenger has insisted this is not to do with the off-field incident, but most people don’t believe that claim and now Sagna has jumped to the defence of Giroud.
“Of course, he acknowledged his mistakes,” the right-back was quoted by Goal.
“He is part of the team, he is among us.
“We know it is difficult for him at this time. He continues to work, he works more in training. It’s clear that this isn’t evident at the moment. He wants to do well and get back to his best.
“I do not think this story has rattled him. He wants to do well and show everyone that, despite the mistake he made, he is ready to fight to help the team and the France national team, too.”
