The Oklahoma City Thunder will need to move up a gear on Saturday in Game 3 against the Memphis Grizzlies or they could move to the brink of a first round exit.
Kevin Durant conceded that he “just didn’t make shots” in Game 2, and ultimately despite being aggressive that was the difference in getting the win and losing.
Both Durant and Russell Westbrook scored 30 points apiece in the 98-95 overtime loss on Thursday, but their efficiency was poor and although there have been calls for the Thunder to share the ball more, ultimately the team remain confident in the ability of their two stars down the stretch.
Meanwhile, Memphis have made the duo work hard for their shots with some intense and aggressive defense work, while in turn they have pounded the boards and made the most of their presence inside.
The Grizzlies know that slowing the tempo of their games with the Thunder will be key to them advancing, and having been effective so far they have managed to take a 2-1 lead in this best-of-seven series.
Coach Dave Jeorger conceded that both Durant and Westbrook will inevitably get their shots up, but their aim is to make them as difficult as possible while also hoping that they miss some.
In contrast, Scott Brooks revealed that they have worked on a few things in the aftermath of their last loss, and they will put up smarter shots while moving the ball to create space on the floor.
Memphis point guard Mike Conley has labelled this the most important game of their season thus far, and given that a win would put them 3-1 up, the importance of this clash shouldn’t be played down.
